No matter which version we see in movies, the Joker's look always receives some polarizing comments and criticism and Zack Snyder is here to explain the famed character's most recent transformation.

For the Zack Snyder Cut, Jared Leto's Joker look was revealed last month and he once again looks completely different causing fans to voice their concerns and praises.

The reveal showed the character wearing a hospital gown with long hair and smeared makeup. Many fans, though, were relieved that the Joker received a makeover from Suicide Squad's highly-criticized "Soundcloud Rapper" version.

In a new interview with IGN, the director explained the Joker's new look and how it plays into the theme of his new film.

“What inspired [Joker’s] look was the sort of a post-apocalyptic world that I’m a huge fan of,” he revealed. His look specifically comes into play during the post-apocalyptic ‘Knightmare’ reality Batman witnesses. “When I talked to Jared and he was interested in doing it, I just felt like, okay, this feels like a thing I can't pass up.”

He further explained that the entire film is set up to have a sequel and the Joker's look is based on another film that takes place during that time so he wanted to keep it consistent. Sadly, it doesn't seem like we'll get that sequel.

“The idea was that as the movies progressed, the next movie – if there ever was one, and it doesn’t seem like there ever will be – but if there was, it would exist primarily in that world with them trying to set it right,” he said.

In the interview, he said that fans can also look forward to a black and white version of the film that will also air on HBO Max (no release date for that yet).

The Snyder Cut is out March 18 on HBO Max and is 4 hours and two minutes long.
