The Black Caps dreams of a first ODI series win in India have been crushed by a ruthless home side.

They've been walloped by 190 runs in the fifth and deciding game in Vizag, skittled for 79 chasing 270 to win.

Spinner Amit Mishra claimed five wickets for the hosts.

Captain Kane Williamson was the only New Zealand batsman to pass 20 with the bat.

He said it's hard to look past today's performance and whether you win or lose you want to put out a good performance.

Williamson's dismissal for 27 triggered the chaos after putting on 35 for the third wicket with Ross Taylor.

He said after two wickets they lost the next eight quickly and were extremely disappointing.

The Black Caps lose the series 3-2 and now return home for the test series against Pakistan next month.
