A decision's expected any day on whether Auckland will host an America's Cup qualifying regatta in 2017.

Cup-holders Oracle are expected to make a call this week - America's Cup authorities have set a deadline of the end of the month.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce is gunning for Auckland - and says he's assessing funding.

"My understanding is that it's all pretty close and the decision will soon be made and announced.

"Then hopefully we'll be in a position pretty quickly to say what we'll do after that."

The Government contributed $36 million to Team New Zealand's last campaign.
