Tom Morello, Flea, Sir Paul McCartney and more react to Charlie Watts' death

hen news broke of Charlie Watts' passing on Tuesday (August 24), musicians took to social media to pay their regards and share their favorite memories of the legendary Rolling Stones drummer.

"Rock n roll would not be rock n roll without the rhythm, the style, the VIBE of this incredible musician," Tom Morello wrote on Instagram. "Rest In Peace to one of the greatest and most important architects of the music we love. Thank you, Charlie Watts."

"The most subtly, warmth and feel of any rock drummer in history. Rest beautifully Charlie we treasure your gifts. ❤️❤️❤️" Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea shared.

The Black Keys paid tribute by sharing footage of the time they shared the stage with The Rolling Stones in Newark, New Jersey in 2012. "We couldn’t be more honored to have shared the stage with Charlie Watts and the Stones. One of the best to ever do it. Thank you for the big beat," they captioned their post.

Paul McCartney also took to social media to share his condolences and love for the Watts family and the Stones, calling Charlie their "rock."

According to a statement, Watts passed away peacefully in a London hospital. He was 80 years old.
