Oasis's Noel Gallagher says his former band's biggest hit, "Wonderwall," is also its most perplexing, and one of many things on which he and his brother Liam Gallagher can't agree.

Looking back on Oasis's second album, 1995's '(What's the Story) Morning Glory', in a recent conversation with Lithium, Noel explained that no one around the band really understands why "Wonderwall" achieved such immortal status.

He said the album Morning Glory, in general, is hard for him to talk about because he just doesn't remember that much about making it.

"...[I]t happened very quickly and no one's got a really great deal of recollection about any of it," Noel said.

After recently asking his manager about Morning Glory, Noel said he was reminded that the sessions were broken up over a three-week period. The band spent the first-week recording, the second-week fighting and the third week finishing the album.

"So we did it in essentially 12 days, which is crazy when you think about it," he continued. "We didn't now what the album would become or what it would mean today."

"Wonderwall" is such a phenomenon, Noel says that even his 20-year-old daughter gets asked about it.

"It's a strange thing because we didn't perform that song for a long time because we could never get it right," he said. "And like I said, Liam hated it; I'm not sure the rest of the band were too keen on it. Why that song took hold on the planet the way that it did is crazy; there's no rhyme or reason for it — it just is."

"It's mad when you think of it, and I try not to think of it, you know — it's just one of my songs."
