Dave Grohl visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday night (February 8) as not only a performer, but a guest too. He chatted with the host about the Foo Fighters' new album Medicine at Midnight and revealed they had planned on putting out the new music last year. Between releasing their 10th album and celebrating their 25th anniversary as a band, Grohl thought 2020 was going to be the Foos' best yet.

“We started recording this record mid-2019. We were like ‘2020 is gonna be the best year our band has ever had. So let’s make a party record,’” Grohl told Fallon. Then, the world changed and the band didn't know what to do.

“We sat on it. Let’s wait, and see if things go back to ‘normal,’" Grohl explained. "Then they were like, ‘dude, let’s go, let’s give it to the people.’” They ended up releasing the album on Friday (February 5).

Elsewhere in the interview, Grohl talked about his interaction with David Bowie and the Foos' origin story. Then he and his bandmates played Medicine at Midnight's latest single, "Waiting on a War."
