22 Jump Street - Review

Schmidt and Jenko are back in possibly the best ‘Bro film’ of the year. Tatum and Hill’s onscreen chemistry shed a light within the first of the two Jump Street projects, bringing audiences into fits of laughter, and I assure you that ’22 Jump Street’ does not let down on the comedic probes that are so valiantly placed, that you will be choking on your corn kernels throughout the 2 hour block buster.

Sequels are infamous for their let downs, unless of course you are ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ which is in an entire world of its own… but hey let’s not stray away from the source content. The announcement of ’22 Jump Street’ either had people frothing with anticipation or slamming their heads in between car doors, pleading for the Hollywood machine to stop the production line with great angst. However, luckily enough the latter did not turn fold, and allowed us to witness the flourishing of Channing Tatums’ comedy career (For an ex model, Stripper and Dancer, the kid does pretty darn good).

As predicted the film picks up right where the first left off, with the pair heading off to college, and all though it may seem like your typical college romp, it is far more than that… wait, who am I kidding… It is just your typical college bro-mance romp, but hell, it does it so well. The film has just that right amount of comedy-action-frat-football, all without the sex… what? No gratuitous sex scene? The film simply didn’t need it, and it was a nice surprise to see a film relying on gags and mischievous action rather than titillating seductress leads.

Needless to say, the theatre was in an eruption of laughter straight from the opening scene to the very end, thankful to the film not ashamed of completely ripping itself out with satirical comedic supreme. But, hey go see this film for yourself – an audience definitely adds to the value and atmosphere of the film in an un-hairy canned laughter format. Grab your bros and she-bros and check out this film while it’s still around.

I give ’22 Jump Street’ a solid 8/10 and a fist bump.
