Dave Grohl says Mick Jagger texted him out of nowhere for "Eazy Sleazy"

There aren't many music icons that Dave Grohl hasn't cross paths with by now.

From his career with Nirvana and Foo Fighters, to his work with Tom Petty, Queens of the Stone Age, Tenacious D, Them Crooked Vultures and Probot, Grohl's list of collaborators is expansive, to say the least.

Last month, Grohl lent his talents on bass, drums and guitar to a new solo single by Mick Jagger called "Eazy Sleazy." Grohl was asked Friday morning by Q104.3 New York's Jim Kerr and Shelli Sonstein if he has a list somewhere of legends he wants to work.

He says the reality of his career involved much less planning than that.

"My entire life, all of these experiences have fallen into my lap," Grohl said. "So I've been failing upward for like 30 years now. Who knows? When I wake up in the morning and look at my cell phone and there's a text from an English number, and it says, 'Hi Dave, it's Mick. Call me back. I have an idea for a project.' I'm looking at it like, 'No way. There's no way that's Mick Jagger.' And then I call, he's like, 'Oh, Dave, how're ya doin', mate?' How did that happen!?"

With no touring for the past year, Grohl has been as busy as ever. He and the Foo Fighters put the finished touches on their 10th studio album, Medicine at Midnight, and got nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He began writing his long-awaited memoir, completed a docu-series for Paramount+ with his mother, Virginia Grohl, and just release his touring documentary, What Drives Us, with Amazon Prime.

This Saturday, he'll be performing with Foo Fighters at Global Citizen's VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World, which kicks off at 8 p.m. ET.
